The world is a global marketplace, as everybody knows. One of the more bizarre results of the word economy are reports that a Nigerian politician has claimed some of the wealthier members of his society are ordering pizzas from the UK and are having them flown 4,000 miles to Nigeria by British Airways.
Agriculture Minister Audu Ogbeh has been quoted as saying that the African country is relying too much on foreign imports which are seen as status symbols by too many people.
‘They buy (pizza) in London, they bring it in on British Airways in the morning to pick up at the airport’, he is reported as saying to a Senate Agriculture Committee in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
He is critical of citizens who import anything from rice to tomato paste because they think ‘it shows status, class, that they only eat imported things.
He added: ‘It is a very annoying situation and we have to move a lot faster in cutting down some of these things’.
His comments have been the subject of some mirth on Twitter, with one user tweeting: Dear @British_Airways, how come you didn’t tell us you run a pizza delivery service to Nigeria? Is
there an app for this?

In a move that could pave the way for the UK and the replacement of most current MPs in the House of Commons, a comedian has become the frontrunner to become President of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s political experience has been limited to playing the role of President on television but has overtaken current Ukraine President, Petro Poroshenko in the running for leadership of the country.
Mr Zelensky has vowed to fight corruption and bribery as he leapfrogged above established politicians in the race for his country’s presidency. Exit polls indicate that he will not gain enough of a majority to win outright so will face a run-off against Mr Poroshenko on April 21.
The name of the TV series in which Mr Zelensky stars in ‘Servant of the People’. Perhaps British MPs should watch it.

One of the more outlandish claims over Brexit was made by Michael Heseltine, one of Stop Brexit’s biggest cheerleaders and one of those widely held responsible for the decline of the Conservatives prior to Tony Blair’s ascendancy.
Now comfortably ensconced in the House of Lords, at the demonstration last weekend on Parliament Square, Heseltine recounted his wartime experiences with particular reference to 1940, when Britain stood alone.
‘I was there!’ he barked. ‘I saw our Army evacuated, our cities bombed, our convoys sunk!’
Younger listeners might well have believed that Heseltine was in the thick of the action and a vital participant.
He was, at the time, seven years old.
