News: Paine Field terminal opens

A passenger terminal opened at Paine Field near Everett in Snohomish County, Washington opened to scheduled airline traffic on March 4.

Paine Field - also known as Snohomish County Airport - open in 1939 and has primarily been used by general aviation, maintenance organisations as well as Boeing. The airfieldis 30 miles north of Seatle and is better known as the manufacturing centre for Boeing 747s, 767s, 777s and 787s. It will initially host commercial services flown by Alaska Airlines and United Airlines.

The all-new passenger terminal is said to offer travellers from the northern part of Seattle and Northwest Washington a time-saving choice over using Seattle-Tacoma International. The facility is only ten minutes from I-5 freeway and its location enables users to avoid congestion in downtown Seattle.

Propeller Airports led the project and aims to offer a customer-centric experience designed for convenience and ease of use with the goal of getting from curb to gate in ten minutes or less. Its lounge features fireplaces, exposed wood details, and floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Olympic Mountains. Electrical outlets are available at virtually every seat, while fast wifi is also available throughout.

The facility will be linked to nine US destinations including Denver, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, through 24 daily flights. Alaska Airlines started services on March 4 and United Airlines commences operations before the end of the month.
