News: Scandinavian adds A321LR

SAS Scandinavian is the latest carrier to make a commitment to the long-range version of the Airbus A321 - the A321neoLR. SAS has signed a lease agreement with ALC (Air Lease Corporation) that will result in the airline adding three jets to its fleet starting in the first half of 2020.

The carrier says that the new aircraft give it an opportunity to offer more intercontinental routes, fewer stopovers and shorter travel times to and from Scandinavia. Although it has not released details of the routes it intents to operate the aircraft on, it notes that the A321LR has sufficient range to reach Northeast US, one of its most important intercontinental markets. SAS adds that the A321LR can also reach destinations in Canada, the Middle East and India. The airline has also yet to confirm the interior configuration for the new fleet but it is expected to include three classes including business.

Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO, SAS said: "This is an entirely new aircraft type for SAS that is incredibly well suited to the Scandinavian market and our travel patterns."
