American Airlines (AA) have extended the period of suspending flights that were to have used the grounded Boeing 737-MAX series until September 3 this year.
According to a statement released by the airline, Reservations and Sales teams will continue to work closely with customers who are impacted by the cancellations, which mean some 115 flights per day will continue to be cancelled
The carrier says that it remains confident that impending software updates to the Boeing 737 MAX, along with the new training elements Boeing is developing in coordination with their union partners, will lead to re-certification of the aircraft soon. AA have been in continuous contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other regulatory authorities, and say they pleased with the progress to date.
Nevertheless, the on-going problems with the aircraft has given rise to passengers due to fly on services not scheduled to use the 737-MAX having their flights cancelled with other types now being used to cover routes the 737-MAX was due to fly.
American has also re-affirmed its commitment to refund passengers who choose not to be re-booked on alternative flights.#
The US giant is of course, ,just one of a number of airlines whose operations have been adversely affected by the grounding of the Boeing aircraft and competing airlines that operate Airbus aircraft on similar routes are reaping the benefit as their route networks are unaffected with the busiest time of year for many airlines - summer - now upon them.
